Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
This news arrives shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
