Christantus Uche Sparks Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.

Despite entering their maiden European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding result that virtually guarantees them a spot in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

Another three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal straight passage to the knockout stages, especially following a prior stumble against Strasbourg.

Squad Members Seize the Moment

This match offered a chance for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, scoring for the second game in succession.

The Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season proved no match even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.

Dominance Asserted from the Outset

In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.

The formerArsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had struck the post.

The home side were hanging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Game

The contest was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, only to see his shot blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still room for development in his game.

A solitary worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the visiting side.
