He had extended an welcoming message to the Israeli public to join his family in mourning his 26-year-old son, Guy, whose physical form had been brought back from Gaza on Monday.
Numerous people answered the invitation. They occupied the avenues, accompanied the funeral vehicle carrying his remains, and arrived at the burial site in such large quantities that the primary scheme to stage the memorial indoors had to be canceled.
Instead, the event was organized outside, with the background of the chorus of singing birds.

He addressed his son. "My dear Guy," he expressed, using a loving expression, "it's hard for me to envision the future without you. They grabbed you from me – they ended your life – they captured my essence and stole my identity and murdered my soul and feelings."
"I've been left hollow since that meaningless attack by those malicious militants when they seized you and instructed you to turn around, and then merely shot two needless bullets into your dorsal area."
"So I found myself this morning, driving to Abu Kabir forensic institute to identify you and say goodbye. They removed the white sheet, and the initial sight I observed was that characteristic grin, that optimism, that serenity and dignity that so characterized you."
"I reached out, tried to smell you, caressed every bone in your body. I looked at you, I was alone with you, and yes, I felt with absolute certainty that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've rejoined our family. You've returned to your relatives' care, to all your close associates, and to the countless people whose emotions your narrative affected."
Throughout the initial segment of the memorial, Illouz had concentrated completely on comforting his junior family members. He tenderly caressed the strands of his girls, held his son, demonstrated love and composed himself for them. But then his emotions surfaced.
"I will yearn for so much journeying together through this country, feeling you, hearing your music, sitting in the hills and lighting the burner to create the drink the way only you understood – 'Dad, do you see the coffee foam? You have to simmer it carefully, let the foam rise, then simmer it additionally. Stir the coffee with circular motions' – and then your grin while sipping the coffee and your enjoyment in every individual sip."
"Prior to my departure Abu Kabir today, I fulfilled my commitment. I looked at you, absorbed your presence one ultimate occasion, and yes, I bestowed affection on the front of your head. I was could perceive your beauty even in the condition in which you returned to us."
