Ex- Physician Faces Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Patients

Prosecutors report that a former physician stands accused of performing assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
