Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
