New York Introduces Online Platform for Residents to Submit Immigration Footage After Arrests of 4 American Citizens

New York state attorney general has rolled out a new reporting form urging citizens to share visual evidence of ICE operations throughout the state. This move comes just a shortly after a major enforcement action shook Chinatown in Manhattan, triggering widespread demonstrations.

US Citizens Arrested In Raid

A US congressman disclosed during a midweek briefing that four American citizens were arrested and kept for "nearly 24 hours" after the previous day's operation. Rallies occurred in NYC on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Each citizen has the right to live without fear," state officials declared in a statement.

"For those who saw and captured federal operations during the raid, I ask you to submit that footage with us. We are pledged to examining these submissions and evaluating any wrongdoings."

Submission Process

The form includes fields to send photos and videos of the operation, along with a area to indicate where it occurred. When submitting, users must tick a checkbox that confirms that "the attorney general may use any documents, photographs, or videos in a official report, including in a court case or public report."

Details of the ICE Action

The Manhattan operation, which observers say involved over fifty federal agents, took place in a famous area of NYC where fake purses, items, goods and additional items are sold daily en masse – often to tourists.

Recordings of Tuesday's raid show several covered and weaponized officers securing and holding a person, and pushing back witnesses. Masses of residents followed the personnel through the streets. An military-style transport was observed rolling through the urban roads.

Official Reactions

At a midweek briefing held with the rights organization, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, announced that four nationals were detained by ICE for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where four American citizens should be taken for unjustly." He noted the individuals were let go on the following day with no legal action taken.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not focused on deporting lawbreakers," Goldman said. "This constitutes a militarized effort to provoke unrest. It is purely a pretext to incite violence for this administration to deploy the military to stop conflict that they themselves caused."

Extensive Outcry

Fury over the ICE raid escalated – every mayoral candidates criticized the raid, including NY's governor.

"Once again, the Trump administration selects authoritarian theatrics that create fear, instead of protection. It has to end," a contender declared.

The city's advocacy organizations spoke out too.

"ICE targeted Chinatown in NYC with armored transports, masked agents and tactical gear to go after small merchants trying to make a living. This raid had no relation to citizen protection and was entirely about terrorizing immigrant families and communities," said the leader of a advocacy group.

Official Guidelines

Agency rules forbids the detention of US citizens and the organization has stated it does not take into custody citizens. Nevertheless, independent reporting has found that numerous US citizens have been held against their will by ICE during the period of the present government.

Current Situation

Enforcement actions have been cropping up increasingly in New York and around the country this year.

A recent action in central NYC was the first known raid on an immigrant shelter of the present government. Demonstrations against immigration enforcement are ubiquitous along with accusations of force and abusive practices.

Most recently, a document filed by advocacy organizations alleged inadequate care of expectant mothers in detention centers.
