Six Arrested After €12 Million Armed Raid on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic

Six armed perpetrators carrying high-powered firearms employed explosives to break into a gold treatment facility located in the city of Lyon, causing light wounds to five workers during described as the most recent prominent broad daylight robbery to hit the country.

The daring raid took place on the afternoon of Thursday, with officers quickly arresting the suspected perpetrators and retrieving the loot valued at approximately €12 million (£10.5M), as stated by authorities.

Five staff members of the gold refining company received light wounds due to the explosion, and three of them were taken to a medical facility for examination, according to regional authorities. A total of twenty-eight staff were at the location when the perpetrators raided.

Those arrested, considered seasoned offenders, were arrested soon afterwards in the nearby town of Vénissieux, France, authorities revealed.

A female participant involved in the raid was likewise arrested, according to law enforcement.

“Six individuals who employed explosive devices in an attack on a gold refining facility in Lyon were apprehended red-handed,” the French interior minister declared on social media, commending law enforcement for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were also confiscated.

The raid happened as authorities on Thursday arrested five more suspects, among them a key figure, in relation to this month's brazen Louvre museum robbery.

Many investigative personnel have been searching for four thieves who used a vehicle with a hydraulic lift and cutting equipment to access a gallery on the first floor at the museum on the nineteenth of October, making off with jewelry valued at approximately €88M.

In a different significant robbery, thieves last month forced their way into the Parisian museum of natural history, stealing gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A woman from China, aged 24 was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona in relation to the burglary, prosecutors stated.

The sequence of heists has sparked worry in France regarding inadequate security measures at museums and other institutions containing precious artifacts.
