The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
